January 18 – 20 – Clewiston, Seminole Museum and Lake Okeechobee

The weather is not improving.  It is still very overcast and cold as we relocate to the center of Florida near Lake Okeechobee.  We arrived in Clewiston, on Lake Okeechobee, by mid-afternoon.  There doesn’t appear to be a lot of places to eat in town but found a Beef O’Grady’s that had good food so we won't starve.

On the 19th we took an hour plus drive south to the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation to visit the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ti Museum.  The museum had a lovely video that talked about the Seminole people, the Seminole wars and had lovely displays of Seminole crafts.

There was also a boardwalk through what looked to be a section of very pristine cypress everglades.

There was very little in the area but the person at the museum desk steered us to a nearby restaurant that had some good food.  Appeared to be primarily locals.

Then it was a long drive back to the hotel.

On our last full day in Clewiston we decided to drive around Lake Okeechobee.  Unfortunately, we found out that the entire lake was surrounded by a huge dike.  It runs 143 miles around the lake.  Not much of a view.

We did find a couple of places where we could drive to the top of the dike to see the lake.  Not that picturesque with nothing to see but the big dike and lots of water.

When we got back to town we stopped at the Hawaiian Shave Ice stand for ices.  Real treat.
