Mary woke up at ungodly hour and peeked out of the windows to see if there was anything to be sighted. We were sailing up the Florida and she could see the lights of Miami or Fort Lauderdale in the distance. Of course, she had to snap a photo. Lighting turned out rather weird.
Today was the end of the cruise and the first thing we did after clearing customs was head to the Fort Lauderdale airport car rental where we picked up our car for the next week. We drove down the Florida Keys eventually trying to find a restaurant. We stopped at what looked to be a permanent “food truck” restaurant but it was closed. Took the opportunity to snap a couple of photos.
We eventually found a restaurant at a marina for lunch. Food was great and the server was friendly and charming.
Then it was off on the long drive. The long road and some bridges.
Our final destination was Key West. After settling in we headed out to a nearby restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was Pepe’s, an institution that had been around since 1909. Food was excellent and the décor eclectic.
And they had chickens freely roaming the dining rooms.
Since Key West is the home of Key Lime Pie we have decided to go a quest to find the best Key Lime Pie in the Keys. And Pepe's have the pie so we all ordered a slice. Very nice start to the quest.
An interesting start to visiting the Keys.
