After seeing Jim and Phyllis off at the airport we hit the road, crossing the state to the gulf. We were looking for the Naples Pier for our first sightseeing…found it but it was close. Plus, it was a cold, blustery day so we walked to a viewpoint, took a few pictures and headed back to the car.
We found a restaurant for lunch and then decided to drive around some of the neighborhoods along the gulf and the neighboring channels. The homes were magnificent. Lot of a money here.
A lot of them had their own boat docks but we also saw a huge “parking garage” for lots of boats.
Our hotel in the area is on Marco Island on a beautiful beach. And we have a lovely view of this beautiful beach. And it is cold. We never did make it out to the beach as the weather was just unpleasant. And most of the days here we saw few people on the beach or at the pool.
On the 16th we booked a boat cruise to see some manatees. It was a reasonably sunny day and not too cold. Some photos of the marina.
We definitely saw some manatees but mainly just their noses as they came up to breath. So, not very good viewing but at least we were out of the hotel room and enjoying a tiny bit of occasional sunshine.
Also saw Little Blue Heron
American White Ibis
Snowy Egret
Alligators
Vultures
Then it was back to the hotel. It was mid-afternoon and we hadn’t had lunch, so we stopped at a pizza parlor where they had pizza by the slice. Reasonably good. Dinner tonight was at the restaurant.
Took this photo of the beach again. Notice that there are almost no umbrellas up or people sunbathing or swimming and no one at the pool. Probably because of the temperature.
